Pick-up Pattern

Pick-up Pattern is a term that describes how good the mic will hear the sound from every direction. All microphones are not created equal. The directional mic or a cardioid mic shaped like a heart and the point of the heart means the aimed at the source of the sound. Also, they respond to sounds that coming from different directions and the sound from the sides is not hard at all to pick up sounds. When is the pick-up pattern longer the microphone cost more money?

The directional mics are available in many degrees of a directional pick-up pattern than a cardioid mic and the sensitivity of the mic is how much sound output can give compared to the sounds input every time.

The Figure 6- 11 and hyper-cardioid mic has a smaller and longer pick-up pattern than a cardioid mic and the super-cardioid mic has the shotgun mic which is directionally mic with extremely narrow pick-up pattern” also it has sights to help to aim at the source of the sound easily. Omni-directional mic with pick-up pattern that can get sound from every direction equally well.

There are other kinds of Figures such as Figure 6-10 and Figure 6-9. Figure 6-10 is a uni-directional mic that has a pick-up pattern in the shape of a heart, thus the name “cardioid” and Figure 6-9 is the Omni-directional mic pick-up sounds from nearly and all direction.
